Documenting softshell turtle and hawksbill turtle on 'Born to be Wild'

BORN TO BE WILD
March 8, 2020
Jovellar, Albay is becoming a popular tourist destination. With its clean river, it’s not hard to see why visitors are attracted to Jovellar. But the Born team finds out that tourists aren’t the only ones drawn to the river; the invasive softshell turtles which locals call “ahas-pagong” thrive in the water, looking for prey. Doc Ferds observes their potentially destructive behavior that can affect local species and harm the ecosystem.
In a rare occasion, Doc Nielsen and the team witness the laying of eggs of a hawksbill turtle in Mati, Davao Oriental. Hawksbill turtles are critically endangered. To see them laying eggs is a blissful sight. Because it is hatching season, the team documents the emergence of baby sea turtles and their first foray back to the sea. But behind the survival of the baby sea turtles is a mother turtle who will do everything to lay her eggs safely and hide them from predators.
Wake up to meaningful Sunday mornings with nature. Watch Born to be Wild, right after AHA!
