Merienda at pulutang Pinoy


Episode on September 4, 2008 Thursday night after Saksi Filipinos are known as a food-loving people. A typical day for us consists of three full meals, BUT WITH THREE EXTRA SNACKS: a morning and afternoon merienda, plus midnight snack! And this doesn’t include our “pulutan" or side dishes during our drinking sessions! This Thursday, satiate your food cravings as 100% Pinoy gives you the best Pinoy merienda and pulutan! A merienda-eating challenge with Miriam Quiambao awaits African-American Charles Lamont Waters as he tries to eat a full-day’s meal, the Filipino way! After eating breakfast, he samples several mid-morning snacks like pan de sal with “kesong puti," ensaimada with queso de bola, “suman sa lihiya" partnered with tsokolate eh! He then gobbles down scoops of sampaguita ice cream and eats fresh lumpiang ubod for mid-afternoon snack after eating lunch. Will Charles be able to take this stomach-filling challenge? Miriam also tours Metro Manila in search of the best places to eat merienda. Where can you find the best-tasting dinuguan and puto, or the crunchiest tokwa’t baboy? Meanwhile, Joaquin Valdes tries the all-time–favorite pulutan of Pinoys: from the yummy sisig to the sinful chicharon! But how did we really learn to partner these mouth-watering side dishes with liquor drinking? Joaquin also discovers that some Pinoys have discovered new versions of pulutan like Pritong Hantik (Fried Fire Ants) and Inadobong Biya!
