WARRIOR TEACHER: TEACHER MARIVIC

At 57 years old, Mrs. Marivic Villacampa—a Senior High School teacher—is regarded as an inspiration, not only to her students but also to her fellow educators.

In 2024, Teacher Marivic was diagnosed with Stage 4 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. She admits that when she first received the news, she felt a wave of despair—and even a tinge of resentment toward God. But after nearly a week of being consumed by grief, she made a choice: to rise, to stand strong, and to face the battle head-on, anchored by her faith.

She shared with Kara that one of her greatest sources of strength has been her students. Shortly after posting about her condition on Facebook, she received a message from a former student that deeply moved her. The message read: “You can’t die yet, Ma’am. Who else will straighten out kids like me if you’re gone?” What seemed like a lighthearted remark carried a heartfelt truth—a reminder of how much her presence mattered, and why she had to keep fighting.

In the face of such a daunting trial, Teacher Marivic continues to teach and inspire her Senior High School students—a living testament that no illness can silence a heart dedicated to serving others.

Si Gng. Marivic Villacampa, 57 taong gulang at isang guro sa Senior High School, ay itinuturing na inspirasyon—hindi lamang ng kanyang mga estudyante, kundi pati ng kanyang mga kapwa guro sa paaralan.

Noong 2024, na-diagnose si Teacher Marivic na may Stage 4 Triple Positive Breast Cancer. Inamin niya na nang una niyang malaman ang balita, nakaramdam siya ng panghihinawa at kaunting tampo sa Panginoon. Ngunit matapos ang halos isang linggong pagkalugmok, pinili niyang bumangon, nagpakatatag, at harapin ang laban sa tulong ng kanyang pananampalataya.
 

Kwento niya kay Kara, isa rin sa kanyang mga pinagkukunan ng lakas ang kanyang mga naging estudyante. Matapos niyang ibahagi sa Facebook ang kanyang kondisyon, nakatanggap siya ng isang mensahe mula sa isang dating estudyante na nagpatibay ng kanyang loob. Sa mensahe, sinabi ng estudyante: “Hindi ka pa puwedeng mamatay, Ma’am. Paano na lang kaming mga batang pasaway kung mawawala ka?” Ang simpleng biro ngunit taos-pusong mensaheng ito ay nagsilbing paalala sa kanya ng kahalagahan ng kanyang presensya at paglaban mula sa karamdaman.

Sa kabila ng mabigat na pagsubok, patuloy na nagtuturo at nagbibigay-inspirasyon si Teacher Marivic sa kanyang mga Senior High School students—isang buhay na patunay na walang sakit ang kayang sumupil sa dedikasyon at pusong handang maglingkod.
