Just a four- to five-hour drive from Manila, Baler welcomes you to the birthplace of Philippine surfing. Its long coastline, gentle waves, and fine sands make it one of the country’s top surfing destinations, especially for beginners.

And if you’re up for a little side quest, this surf town also offers plenty of adrenaline-filled activities to try.

Rent a motorcycle and take a chill ride around town

Before you hit the waves, take a leisurely ride around town and visit some of Baler’s picture-perfect spots by renting a motorcycle. With two valid IDs, one driver’s license and one government-issued ID, and a fee of ₱1,500, you can explore and enjoy the scenic spots around Baler.

Try a river-crossing ride and mudpack ATV experience

Now that you’ve warmed up your driving skills, pump up your adrenaline with an ATV adventure! You can choose from various trails, including a normal race track and a river-crossing route.

Different kinds of “waves” will hit you on the race track, which is filled with plenty of slopes. And when blessed with a few rain showers, the track gets extra muddy, making the ride even more fun and challenging!

Try skateboarding at one of the country’s biggest skateparks

Aside from the muddy waves on the ATV track, concrete waves are also making their mark in this surf town, especially among young locals.

Grab a board and test your balancing skills at one of the biggest skateparks in the country. The skatepark is home to aspiring skateboard athletes, and even if you’re not quite confident on a board or forgot to bring your own, you can simply watch the local Balereño skaters showcase their skills during practice.

Ride the waves of Baler

And what is Baler without experiencing its beautiful waves for yourself?

The gentle waves of this surf town are perfect for beginner surfers, especially with the proper guidance of local surfing instructors. Various surf schools also offer basic surfing lessons to help you gain the confidence you need to stand up on your board!

So, if you’re riding a wave of exhaustion or burnout, the waves of Baler might just be the perfect quick weekend getaway for you.
