Filthy sugar revisited

Episode airs on Feb. 17, 2007 Many were shocked to discover the disgusting processing of sugar shown in Imbestigador last Saturday. The company’s workers walked barefoot on sugar spread across filthy floors. Rats and insects freely roam around their warehouse. Lab tests unsurprisingly showed traces of human hair, rat droppings, and wood shavings in the sugar sold by the company. The company supplies sugar to at least 14 provinces in Luzon and even some major supermarkets in Metro Manila. Little wonder then that Imbestigador’s report generated tremendous reaction. Mike Enriquez and his staff were swamped with calls and emails from worried viewers and angered clients wanting to know if they were among the unwitting victims of the company called Dynamic Triple C. Imbestigador also features Noemi, who consulted a health center during her pregnancy. After three months, Noemi noticed that her stomach was no longer growing and began to doubt the clinic and midwife who was checking on her. It was only after she had herself examined in a hospital did she learn that the child she was bearing was already dead. Church-goers in Meycauayan, Bulacan are up in arms over the transfer of a grotto of the Virgin Mary in a move that pushed through despite opposition from devotees and bishops. Church members hold a rally to protest the transfer and complain that it was a politician who was behind the move. Residents and village councilors complain against a woman village chief in Tondo, Manila supposedly is lording it over the community, demanding payment for use of public facilities and renting out as an apartment the village’s day-care center.
