'Muton' Dokyu ni Jay Taruc ngayon Lunes sa I-Witness
“Education is like building bridges,” they say. But how far can a student go and endure for the sake of education? In a remote town in Cagayan de Oro, a 14 year old student uses a unique mode of transportation just to make it to school every day. Because his home and his school are separated by a raging river too deep to cross by foot and too dangerous to swim, Roy’s way to school is unlike any other. Taking pity on Roy’s predicament, his grandfather made a special contraption from old, rusty steel and wood. The wood, built like a “kariton,” dangles on a steel cable that hangs over the river. To Roy, this makeshift cable car called “muton” by locals, is his lifeline to education. Cable crossing with his bare hands is what Roy has been doing every day for the past two years. Living alone with his grandparents in a small shack, life is hard for Roy. Aside from his struggle to cross the river, it is also a challenge for Roy to convince his family not to stop his schooling. His grandparents worry that this “muton” is only temporary. But Roy believes that while he may not be the brightest student, he has enough determination to finish his studies. This Monday night, Jay Taruc discovers an extraordinary journey of a student who will do whatever it takes to reach his dreams regardless of the obstacles in his way. I-Witness’ “Muton” airs this Monday, after Saksi.
