Infographic: Rattan harvesting in Sierra Madre


Rattan is a sturdy material used to make furniture and handicrafts. But while some rattan products are valuable export goods, the process that turns rattan vines into usable materials is a long, tiring and dangerous one.

In the documentary 'Rattan sa Pusod ng Sierra Madre,' Kara David met with Filipinos who harvest rattan and learned that for all the dangers of their work, the pay is startlingly low.
