What becomes of Bohol's damaged churches? Find out on tonight's 'I-Witness'
“GUMUHONG PAMANA”Dokumentaryo ni Jay Taruc
October 21, 2013
Bohol is known for its pristine beaches and marvelous wonders of nature. But unbeknownst to some, the province is also teeming with historical treasures—the churches. Or so it was.
Because on the early morning of October 15, 2013, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the Visayan Islands. The hardest hit was Bohol.
The Boholanos witnessed the crumbling of their churches to the ground. They cannot do anything as the historical walls, roofs, bell towers built by their ancestors came falling apart. In an instant, these hundred-year-old-structures, were all gone.
Immediately, the government dispatched its personnel from different agencies catering to the culture and the arts to assess the damage. They themselves became weak upon seeing the devastation done to the heritage churches.
Restoring these is a tedious process. Not to mention the financial amount required to restore and reconstruct these structures.
For the people of Bohol, they have only their faith to hold them together.
