'Balik Tanaw': An I-Witness documentary by Howie Severino
"Balik Tanaw"
Dokumentaryo ni Howie Severino
Airing date: December 30, 2013

In a long journalism career, Howie Severino has encountered many individuals who are no longer on this earth. 2013 was an unusually heart-breaking year, when he lost his cameraman of more than 20 years, Egay Navarro, along with two personalities Howie deeply admired, Behn Cervantes and Eddie Romero.
Behn and Eddie were two giants of the arts who helped Howie explain an era to a youthful audience in his documentary, "Ganito Kami Noong Martial Law," which explored the paradox of a golden age of Philippine cinema blooming in a period of dictatorship. Howie first met Behn in political detention during the Marcos regime.
Egay Navarro was a legend among those who had the good fortune of working with him in a career that began when he was in his teens. Howie collaborated with Egay on a wide range of video pieces that ranged from quirky TV news stories to the documentaries for I-Witness that won them many awards. He was more than a cameraman, as Howie always knew. Egay was an adventurer who used the camera to explore and interact with the world.
As their year-end documentary for 2013, Howie and his documentary team will look back on these lives and their work, and the impact that they made.
