Our world is changing. With natural disasters of biblical proportions and deadly diseases creating a global pandemic, we are witnessing a threat to mankind like we’ve never seen before.
In the Philippines, strong typhoons, earthquakes, and other natural disasters visit the country every year. In some cases, communities are cut off from the rest of the country with barely anything to live on. No food, water, medicine, fuel, electricity and even security. In order to survive, it was every man for himself. But there are people who believe it doesn’t have to be this way. They are called “preppers”.
Duds Santos, a doctor and a member of the police force, has been working on his preparedness for a few years now. He has stocked up on food, ammunition, and state-of-the art medical and communications equipment in his home, office, vehicle and two other bug out locations. His whole family is involved in prepping as well. They have devised several elaborate survival strategies from living near a railroad track to training his nine year-old son in using a firearm.
Maurie Ocampo calls himself a survivalist. Aside from prepping, he has opted to design his farm outside Metro Manila to be self-sustaining when a major disaster strikes the city. He grows his own food and medicinal plants, has his own water source, and together with a select group of other prepper friends, is training himself in different survival skills.
Sandra Aguinaldo enters the world of the men who invest a lot of time, money and effort preparing for a catastrophe. “Pinoy Prepper” airs this Saturday on I-Witness, after Celebrity Bluff.
