Maraming apektado sa pagsasara ng mga negosyo nitong kasagsagan ng pandemya. Subalit, sinong mag-aakalang ang isang negosyong nagsara na ay muling nabigyan ng pagkakataong bumangon muli?

Ito ang kuwento ng pasuan sa bayan ng Sto. Tomas, sa Pampanga. Sa salitang Kapampangan, “mangkukuran” ang tawag sa mga gumagawa ng paso. Ilang dekada na raw ang industriyang ito. At ang kompanyang nalugi na dahil sa matumal na bentahan ng paso, muling nakabangon dahil sa mga nagsulputang mga “plantito” at “plantita.”

Ang mga putik… naging importante uli.

Ang mga taong bumubuo nito, nagkaroon muli ng pagkakakitaan.

Sa pagbisita ni Atom Araullo sa pagawaan ng mga paso, nakilala niya ang mga mangkukuran. Mula sa paghuhukay ng lupa, sa paggiling, paghubog, pagluluto at pagpipintura, hindi basta basta ang pagbuo sa isang piraso ng paso.

Maituturing itong “work of art” dahil sa talento sa paghugis at paglalagay ng disenyo. Bukod pa sa pagtitiyaga at pasensya na ibinubuhos dito.

Countless lives have been affected when businesses closed down because of the pandemic. But, ironically, one industry is thriving.

This is the bittersweet story of one pottery company in Sto. Tomas, Pampanga. It was established since the 80s. But had to close down in 2011 due to lack of customers.

When the nation was put under quarantine, caring for plants became the “thing” to cope with boredom and axiety. Thus, the term “plantito” or “plantita” were coined. They represent positivity in what seems to be a bleak future.

So, when we speak of plants, what immediately comes to mind is the pot to put it in.

The “plantitos” and “plantitas” made it possible for a pottery shop to regain its former glory. They were able to rehire their workers that gave them new opportunities.

The whole process--- from collecting mud, to molding, to baking, to designing is painstakingly done by assigned potters.

So every pot is a work of art by the collective people who endure the hot climate of Pampanga for their craft.
