Cell phones could soon buy MRT tickets – report

MANILA, Philippines – Your cell phone could buy Metro Rail Transit (MRT) tickets soon. BusinessWorld’s Saturday online edition reported that the MRT would launch a mobile ticketing (m-ticket) system to cut long queues at train stations. Under the mobile ticketing system, cell phone users should register by sending a text message to 2660. Subscribers would be charged 3% more than the regular magnetic cards. Registered subscribers would receive a two-dimensional (2D) barcode through SMS. Scanning devices that would be installed at all train stations would read the barcode. The devices at the Taft and North Ave. stations would be operational by Monday, according to the report. - GMANews.TV
