Asus launches new Seashell netbook

MANILA, Philippines - After being overtaken by other PC makers despite having pioneered the netbook segment, Asus has finally realized the importance of incorporating design in its product offerings. Thus, the Taiwan-based company introduced on Thursday its Seashell, arguably its boldest and most stylish Eee PC yet. The new model, which obviously copied the form factor of Apple’s Macbook Air, is being retailed at P32,450. As implied by its name, the design of the Eee PC Seashell was inspired by the seashell. Its glossy exterior — created through In-Mold Roller technology — also serves as a protective shell providing scratch resistance. Curiously, the revolutionary technology that Asus introduced in its first Eee PC – the solid-state drive – has been dropped in the Seashell and replaced with the traditional 2.5-inch SATA II 160GB hard disk drive. Weighing just 1.1 kilogram, the Eee PC Seashell is equipped with “an 10-inch display, ergonomically designed keyboard, intelligent energy management system and an intuitive multi-touch touch-pad." Asus claims that the new netbook model has six hours of battery life, aided by its Super Hybrid Engine that intelligently monitors the programs being used and deploys just the right amount of power required An intriguing new feature of the netbook is its multi-touch track pad, which allows users to intuitively zoom in or out of pictures via pinching, or navigating up and down pages by sliding along the touchpad. - GMANews.TV
