Facebook app for Miramax movie rentals
A new app will allow movie buffs to buy or rent movies from Miramax through an app on the giant social networking site. But tech site CNET said what sets Miramax apart is that it aims to integrate the Facebook app with Ooyala Social, making Facebook a "social TV platform." "Movie renters looking for a hit Miramax film such as 'Good Will Hunting' can go to the studio's Facebook fan page and connect through Facebook Connect. They can pay for the movie using Facebook Credits, an alternative payment option available for hundreds of games and applications," CNET said. The Miramax app can be accessed at https://apps.facebook.com/miramaxapp/. Initially, 20 Miramax movies, including "Pulp Fiction," will be available for 30 credits, equivalent to $3. On the other hand, Ooyala Social lets users chat with their friends while they are watching their favorite Miramax film. Ooyala CEO Jay Fulcher said Ooyala is the only video technology company "that has built this deep integration with Facebook." CNET said Ooyala also allows private screening of films via a special login for Facebook that can create a unique experience for the targeted audience. Fulcher also said Ooyala can move across devices such that customers who use Ooyala Social can start a movie on their computer, and then watch the rest on their iPad or Google TV. â TJD, GMA News
