Apple releases iOS 5.0.1 update

After seeding test versions to developers then to a select few users, Apple Inc. on Friday (Manila time) released an update for its iOS 5 operating system that addresses battery and some security woes. Tech site The Next Web said the iOS 5.0.1 update (build 9A405) is available in iTunes, and over-the-air to existing iOS 5 users. "We recommend waiting and doing the update OTA because the update experience is much quicker this way, due to the smaller size of the update file (the iPad 2′s update is only 34.9MB OTA), and very slick," it said. Among the fixes bundled in the update are:

    - Fixes bugs affecting battery life - Adds Multitasking Gestures for original iPad - Resolves bugs with Documents in the Cloud - Improves voice recognition for Australian users using dictation
On the other hand, Apple also included a fix for a security issue involving rogue apps downloading malicious code, and another fixing the iPad Smart Cover security glitch. The firmware update is available for:
    - iPad - iPad 2 Wifi - iPad 2 GSM - iPad 2 CDMA - iPhone 3GS - iPhone 4 - iPhone 4 CDMA - iPhone 4S - iPod touch 3G - iPod touch 4G
