Marvel unleashes MMORPG  'Marvel Heroes' June 4

Fans of the Marvel Universe looking to play their favorite heroes and villains in a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) setting are in for a treat this year, as Marvel and game developer company Gazillion Entertainment have announced the release date to their online game “Marvel Heroes”. With a story penned by comics’ scribe Brian Michael Bendis, Marvel Heroes is a free, downloadable game for PC. The game revolves around the player taking control of one of Marvel’s elite roster of heroes, as they assemble to stop Doctor Doom and his allies from using the powerful artifact known as “The Cosmic Cube” for world conquest. Using in-game currency and fulfilling certain requirements unlocks more heroes and costumes for the player to choose from. Developed using Epic’s Unreal 3 Engine and using gameplay similar to Diablo & Diablo II, Marvel Heroes was first announced in 2011 and is being developed by Gazillion and Secret identity Studios. David Brevik, President and COO of Gazillion Entertainment, was also one of the co-founders of Blizzard North, and his input has led to the creation of Diablo-inspired gameplay for Marvel Heroes as well. “When we started working on Marvel Heroes we knew exactly what we wanted to make – an unrivaled multiplayer free-to-play action-RPG experience that allowed gamers and comic fans to play as their favorite Super Heroes,” said Brevik. A new trailer for the game, called “Villains Trailer”, had earlier been released for viewing. According to the official press release for the game, Marvel Heroes will launch around the world on June 4, 2013. “Players who have purchased Founders Packs as part of the Marvel Heroes Founders Program will receive early access to the game up to seven days early, beginning on May 28, 2013.” The Marvel Heroes Founders Program lets players purchase limited-edition digital Founders Packs for access to their favorite heroes, unique costumes, early game access, and in-game currency that can be used to buy in-game items at launch. The Marvel Heroes Founders Program is available until June 3rd at 11:59 pm PDT with Starter, Premium and Ultimate Packs for purchase at founders.marvelheroes.com. Purchasers of both Premium and Ultimate Packs now receive access to the Marvel Heroes Closed Beta. Marvel Heroes will be available for Mac OS after the June 4th PC launch.
