Airbag jeans developed to help protect motorcyclists in case of accidents
A Swedish company has created the world's first-ever airbag jeans, which can help protect motorcyclists in case of accidents.
Developed by Airbag Inside, the airbag jeans are made of Armalith denim. Armalith denim is said to be the strongest material in the world.
The pants are made with water-repellent, breathable, and abrasion-resistant fabric, which looks and feels like regular denim.
The product has been tested on a rider going 70 kilometers per hour. If the motorcyclist gets into a crash, the carbon dioxide cartridge in the pants will activate and instantly provide an air cushion.
"The only impact protection you have in regular motorcycle jeans are basically the knee protectors... This is completely different level. This is impact protection for, like, a big part of your body," said Moses Shahrivar, founder and creative director of Airbag Inside.
The pants help decrease the chances of spinal cord injuries, and possibly, paralysis.
The material also doesn't scratch easily so even the skin of the rider may remain unharmed.
The airbag denim is also reusable since the carbon dioxide cartridge can be replaced.
The airbag jeans will be available on the company website, airbagjeans.com, and retail for £420, which is equivalent to around P28,000.
