FDA warns against buying Bio Stem Plus supplement sold online
Health authorities warned the public against buying a supposed stem cell health product being sold online, saying it is unregistered and has been making "deceitful" health and therapeutic claims.
In the Advisory 2013-036, the Food and Drug Administration also ordered the confiscation of "Bio Stem Plus" products, which it said are sold online through sites like Sulit.com.ph.
"The public is hereby warned against buying and using unregistered BIO STEM PLUS TM since it is neither an FDA-approved stem cell preparation nor an approved drug product. There is no scientific and clinical studies that would support or back up its health and therapeutic claims," it said.
FDA head Kenneth Hartigan-Go said the product's deceitful health and therapeutic claims include:
- Naturally increase adult stem cell circulation
- Aids in repair of damaged tissues
- May assist as a helper in up to 70 known human conditions
- Could decrease the effect of age
It also claimed it can promote flawless skin and sharper minds, and get rid of high blood, vertigo, and back pain. The FDA advised consumers to be more vigilant and critical about online and digital advertisements.
It also ordered FDA inspectors to "seize and confiscate all unregistered food supplements that are sold or offered for sale in outlets."
Meanwhile, it also urged the public to report unregistered health products or adverse reactions after using any health products via report@fda.gov.ph. – KDM, GMA News
