Endangered Philippine eagle found dead in Davao, possibly shot

A female Philippine eagle was found dead in a forested area of Davao City, with authorities suspecting it may have been shot with an air gun.

Members of the Philippine Eagle Foundation found the decomposing remains of the eagle in Barangay Sibulan in Toril district Aug. 15, GMA Davao reported Wednesday.

The report said the eagle's location was determined with the help of GPS monitoring.

It added that the eagle had offspring that was allowed to live in the forest.

A necropsy showed the female Philippine eagle may have been hit by an air gun, as shown by a crack on its breastbone.

Jayson Ibanez, the Philippine Eagle Foundation's director for research and conservation, said they found no fracture in the eagle's other bones.
