WATCH: Expedition finds Japanese WWII 'Musashi' battleship in PHL seas
Earlier this week, Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen announced via Twitter that a private exploration team located the Japanese battleship Musashi in the Sibuyan Sea off Sibuyan Island in Romblon.
The team has released video of the expedition, detailing what it found one kilometer deep in the sea.
Prior to Allen’s expedition which led to the discovery of the sunken battleship, it was included in a list of four “great wrecks” that remain a mystery. The Musashi was sunk by American air forces, and its location remained unknown until Monday.
Meanwhile, the Philippine government is working with Japan in verifying the shipwreck.
Under Republic Act 10066, or the National Cultural Heritage Act, the National Museum has the authority "regulate and control all anthropological research conducted by foreigners” in the Philippines. —JST, GMA News
