Baboon flees from Argentine zoo to shoe shop -keepers

A baboon escaped from a zoo in Argentina on Tuesday and was caught after hiding in a shoe shop, his keepers said.

Police were called after the creature escaped from the zoo in Buenos Aires while it was closed to the public.

"The incident occurred during feeding. The animal acted unexpectedly and surprised its keeper, which gave it space to escape," the zoo said in a statement.

The baboon was found in a nearby shoe shop, where zoo keepers caught it with a net and a plastic cage, it said.

They returned the animal to the zoo "in perfect health." — Agence France-Presse
