Google celebrates discovery of new Earth-like planets

Google customized its search landing page on Thursday, February 23, with another one of its iconic Doodles—this time, an animated celebration of the discovery of seven new Earth-like planets in a nearby solar system.

The short cartoon, created by Google resident artist Nate Swineheart, shows Earth and Moon taking a quick peek at their neighbors.

"NASA just announced the discovery of seven earth-size planets orbiting the same star only 235 trillion miles away. In space terms, that practically makes us next-door neighbors!" Google said in its Doodle archive blog.

"According to NASA, all seven planets could have liquid water, the most crucial ingredient for life -- assuming the right atmospheric conditions," it added. — GMA News
