Mayon Volcano spews lava, thick ash for 4th time Wednesday
Mayon Volcano spewed more lava and ash on Wednesday afternoon in its fourth lava fountaining episode for the day, which generated an ash plume three kilometers high.
According to science research specialist Maricel Capa of the volcano monitoring division of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS), the event started at 1:54 p.m. and lasted until 2:39 p.m.

Capa told GMA News Online that the afternoon lava fountaining event was also accompanied by a rumbling sound.
The latest episode was preceded by a 9-minute lava fountaining that started at 10:50 a.m. and also brought on a 3-km ash plume; and one from 6:02 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. that generated a 5-km plume.

Wednesday’s first lava fountaining episode occurred between 2:33 a.m. to 3:57 a.m. and came along with a 5-km ash plume, Capa said.
Ash produced by the volcanic events were all colored grey and drifted southwest of the volcano, following the wind’s direction, she said.
