PIPE-TO MANALO-TO

5 Pisay N. Vizcaya students invent prototype that can generate electricity from water

At first glance, one might see an orange rig that looks like a homemade fountain. But the device can actually generate electricity from water.

According to a 24 Oras report by GMA News' JP Soriano on Wednesday, five senior high school students from the Philippine Science High School in Nueva Vizcaya created the prototype using recycled materials like tubes, metal fan and water pump.

Called "Pipe-To Manaloto," the invention is placed in a basin filled with water. The name is a play on the GMA show "Pepito Manaloto."

"Natatapon-tapon lang 'yung tubig so naisip ko what if gawan natin 'to ng solution," Earvin Michael Bay, one of the students, said.

"Free energy po siya no kasi galing naman po siya sa natural resources," he added.

Jenshiam Balgua, mentor of the students, said the prototype can generate 1.5 to 5 volts of electricity.

"'Yan po nagagamit namin 'yan para makapag-charge ng phone, pagkatapos niya dumaan sa DC Booster," Balgua said.

Last February, the group won in a contest called "The Bright Idea Challenge" for their invention. They won P100,000.

"We need to be the catalyst for change, kung anong gusto nating pagbabago, dapat simulan natin," Bay said.

"'Yung projects ng iba eh parang wow, ganon kalaki may mga solar panels and stuff, medyo advanced," Jose Benjamin Dela Cruz, another member of the group, said.
