DICT launches Philippine roadmap for ICT sector

The Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on Thursday formally launched the National ICT Ecosystem Framework (NICTEF), the Philippine ICT sector roadmap.

NICTEF is the blueprint for the collection, management, and development of the national ICT data, DICT said in formally launching it in Quezon City.

“The NICTEF is envisioned as a ‘living document’, contributory to the realization of an equitable, inclusive, and sustainable development for the nation, with ongoing reviews and updates driven by inputs from stakeholders,” DICT said.

The NICTEF includes provisions on enabling and sustaining the ICT environment, improved public links and connectivity, and industry and countryside development.

It also delves into ICT user protection and information security, resource sharing and capacity building through ICT, and participartory e-governance.

Stakeholders such as the Internet Society (ISOC) welcomed this development.

“The Philippine government’s commitment to following the multi-stakeholder model in the development of NICTEF is an exemplary approach and is a model best practice for other countries to consider in their policy development processes,” said ISOC chief regional director for Asia Pacific Rajnesh Singh during the launching ceremony.

“The Internet Society is honored to have been able to contribute to the development of this framework that will guide the development of the Philippine digital ecosystem—and lay the foundation for all sectors to benefit from the use of ICTs and the Internet,” he added. —VDS, GMA News
