Pinoy students bag 189 medals at int’l math contest

Filipino students won 189 medals at the 15th International Mathematics Contest (IMC) in Singapore, according to the Mathematics Trainers Guild-Philippines.

The delegates from the Philippines bested competitors from 14 other countries on their way to bagging 27 gold, 54 silver, and 108 bronze medals.

They also received 80 merit awards from the contest, which was held from August 2 to 5, 2019.

"Congratulations to our Filipino students for achieving a bountiful harvest of medals this year at IMC. We commend them for their hard work," MTG president Dr. Isidro Aguilar said in a statement.

Zamboanga City Schools Division Superintendent Felix Romy Triambulo led the Filipino delegates from different parts of the country.

Team leaders Manuel Kotah, Arvie Ubarro, Myrna Agtarap and Resicito Navarro also provided their expertise to the contestants.

Last year, the Filipino delegates also brought home almost 200 medals from the 14th IMC. — Dona Magsino/BM, GMA News
