Duterte moves celebration of Nat'l Science and Technology Week to November

President Rodrigo Duterte has moved the annual celebration of the National Science and Technology Week (NSTW) from the third week of July to the fourth week of November.

According to Proclamation 780, the change of date was meant to ensure “maximum participation” of schools, students, stakeholders and the public during the week-long celebration, given the change in the academic calendar of most universities, schools and educational institutions.

Many universities have adopted the August to May school calendar but classes in public schools supervised by the Department of Education still begin in June.

The NSTW aims to provide attention to the contributions of science and technology to national development and to recognize and appreciate the accomplishments and personalities in the field of science and technology.

Duterte said the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) will spearhead and facilitate the conduct of programs and activities nationwide in connection with the NSTW.

He also enjoined all government agencies, specifically those involved in science and technology, and encouraged local government units and the private sector to provide the necessary support and assistance to the DOST to ensure the successful observance of the NSTW.
