At least 51 barangays in Cotabato highly susceptible to landslide —MGB


The Mines and Geosciences Bureau in Region XII (MGB XII) on Tuesday identified at least 51 barangays in Cotabato as highly susceptible to landslide following the series of strong earthquakes in Mindanao in southern Philippines last week.

According to MGB XII, it dispatched a team of geologists on October 16, 29-31, and November 1 to 3 to conduct geological assessment on areas affected by tension cracks and landslides.

“The MGB XII issued a general public advisory on earthquake-induced hazards where it emphasized that this type of hazard can be worsened by rainfall events,” MGB XII said.

Relying on MGB Geohazard Mapping, the MGB XII said these landslide-prone barangays are located in Tulunan, Kidapawan City, Mlang, and Makilala:

Tulunan (15):

  • New Panay
  • New Bunawan
  • Maybula
  • Kanibong
  • Lampagang
  • Tuburan
  • Banayal
  • Bituan
  • Bacong
  • Batang
  • New Caridad
  • G. Baynosa
  • Paraiso
  • Magbok
  • Daig

Kidapawan City (5):

  • Ilomavis
  • Balabag
  • Indangan
  • Perez
  • Ginatilan 

Mlang (1):

  • Nueva Vida

Makilala (30):

  • All barangays except Bulakanon, Concepcion, Jose Rizal, Katipunan II, Libertad, Luna Norte, San Vicente, and Taluntalunan
