5.4-magnitude earthquake jolts Prieto Diaz in Sorsogon


A 5.4-magnitude earthquake rocked Prieto Diaz town in Sorsogon on Monday, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The temblor struck at 10:37 p.m. at 37 kilometers northeast of Prieto Diaz.

Phivolcs said the quake was of tectonic origin and had a 77-kilometer depth of focus. 

Aftershocks are expected, Phivolcs added.

Intensity V was reported  in Sorsogon City, while Intensity IV was reported in Legazpi City, Virac, Catanduanes, Naga City, Catarman and Northern Samar.

Intensity III was recorded in Bulusan and Irosin in Sorogon and Catbalogan City.
Intensity II was reported in Palo, Alangalang, Babatngon, Calubian and Dagami in Leyte.—LDF, GMA News
