Magnitude 5.1 quake hits Davao del Sur

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Davao del Sur on Thursday afternoon.

The tectonic earthquake occurred at 2:21 p.m., PHIVOLCS said. Its
epicenter was at 06.74°N, 125.08°E - 008 kilometers S 80° W of Magsaysay in Davao Del Sur while its depth of focus was 017 km.

PHIVOLCS said Intensity V was felt in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, while Intensity III was felt in Kidapawan City, Cotabato, and Intensity II in Kiamba, South Cotabato and General Santos City.

Aftershocks are expected but PHIVOLCS said there may be no damage.

"Isa ring malakas na lindol ito na puwedeng magkaroon ng kasiraan kung sakali mahihina ang mga bahay kung mayroong mga na-report na Intensity VI. Titingnan pa po natin 'yan," PHIVOLCS director Renato Solidum, Jr. said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

"Maghanda tayo sa mga aftershocks na posibleng mangyari," he added. 

South Cotabato Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief Rolly Aquino said no casualty and damage have been reported so far, although they are preparing for aftershocks. —KBK, GMA News
