For the Year of the Tiger, Kuya Kim shares facts about the big cat
2022 is the Year of the Tiger, so what better way to celebrate it than with some interesting facts about the largest cat species?
While lions are known to be the kings of the jungle, Kuya Kim said tigers are more likely to win against them when in a one-on-one fight. Additionally, they are heavier and more aggressive.
“Style kasi talaga ng tigre ang umatake mag-isa kumpara sa leon na mas sanay makipag-laban kapag may kasamang grupo,” he said on Monday’s “24 Oras.”
(“It’s really the tigers’ style to attack alone compared to lions that are more used to fighting as part of a group.”)
The size of a tiger’s stomach is 10 times that of a human being and they can consume 25 kilos of meat in one sitting. Meanwhile, their urine’s smell is similar to that of popcorn.
As for their looks, Kuya Kim said their stripes are unique to each one, so there’s no similar stripe pattern. The white spot behind their ears, meanwhile, serves as their adaptation to nature.
“Kapag nakita nila yung dalawang dot na ‘yan, akala nila nakatingin sa kanila yung tigre kaya parang mata ‘yan sa likod ng kanilang tenga,” he said.
(“When they see those two dots, they think the tiger is looking at them so the dots are like eyes behind their ears.”)
Like how loud the New Year was welcomed with fireworks and cheers, a tiger’s roar is 114 decibels or as loud as a jet plane. It can be heard up to two miles away.
According to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) website, tigers are already endangered. Only around 3,900 tigers in the wild remain. — Franchesca Viernes/BM, GMA News
