British Council offers scholarships for women from Philippines, other countries to study STEM in UK


Filipino women who have backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) are eligible to apply for a scholarship to study at a United Kingdom university through the British Council.

According to the British Council website, applicants from the Philippines who are applying for a Master's scholarship may get into one of four schools available for East Asian countries.

Courses offered for the Master’s scholarship are focused on climate change, healthcare management, automation, and water engineering.

The program, which aims to increase opportunities for women in STEM, are in the lookout for applicants who "are active in the field with work experience or a proven interest in their subject area."

They also need those who are "passionate about their course of study and are willing to engage as a committed British Council scholarship alumni."

Apart from these, applicants should speak and understand English well, can demonstrate a need for financial support, and can go to the UK in September 2022 for her studies.

If accepted, main benefits include academic prestige, economic support including tuition fees, stipend, travel costs, visa and health coverage fees, special support for mothers, and English language support.

Women from Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, and Myanmar are also eligible to apply for the scholarships.

Application deadlines vary between courses, but they range from February 10 to April 10.
