Use a lot of tissues? A reusable version is now available thanks to this Danish company

A Danish company has come up with a way to reduce single-use sanitary items such as tissue paper, cotton buds, and facial pads: make reusable versions.

Founded by eco-conscious designer Isabel Aagaard, LastObject aims to bring down the number of trees cut down to make these items as well as the amount of garbage collected after they are used.

Their products are washable and therefore reusable, which eliminates the need to keep buying and throwing sanitary items used every day.

"If we can create an item that replaces a single-use item, then potentially we can replace a thousand of a single-use item," said LastObject co-founder Nicolas Aagaard.

"A big part of the issue around single-use items are people's habits that we're used to using it, we use so many," he added.

LastTissue, said to be a modern take to the handkerchief, is meant to replace up to 2,800 single-use tissues. It is made of certified organic cotton.

LastRound and LastSwab, meanwhile, are meant to replace up to 1,700 cotton pads  and 1,000 cotton buds. The former is a mix of cotton and wood fiber; the latter is mix of rubber and plastic.

According to the founders, people who have switched to LastObject products have been able to save over 2.4 billion units of single-use items so far.

"If we all do just a little bit, that actually creates a huge impact. We have customers that are willing to make a willing change for the better," Isabel said.
