Mt. Bulusan calm a week after last phreatic eruption
Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon had calmed down a week after its last phreatic eruption, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Saturday.
"Kasalukuyan, medyo tumahimik na si Bulkang Bulusan and we're hoping na sana tuloy-tuloy po 'yung maging gawain niya na ganoon," NDRRMC spokesperson Mark Timbal said at the Laging Handa briefing.
(Currently, Bulusan Volcano has calmed down a bit and we're hoping that it will continue.)
Timbal reported that about 44,000 people were affected by the eruptions.
"Pero so far, wala na tayong evacuees kasi nagsi-uwian na 'yung mga evacuated na pamilya sa municipality ng Juban," he said.
(So far, there were no evacuees left as the families returned to the municipality of Juban.)
The ash fall reached Juban and Irosin in Sorsogon after Bulusan's first phreatic eruption last June 5.
PHIVOLCS raised Bulusan's alert status from 0 (normal) to Alert Level 1 (low-level unrest).
