15 volcanic quakes recorded in Bulusan Volcano —PHIVOLCS

Fifteen volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Bulusan Volcano in Sorsogon in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Saturday.

A total of 724 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were emitted on June 30, it said in its bulletin.

PHIVOLCS however could not measure the height of plume emitted by Bulusan Volcano since their view was obscured.

The volcano edifice remains inflated, it said.

Alert Level 1 (low-level unrest) remains in effect in  Bulusan Volcano, PHIVOLCS said.

The agency reiterated that entry into the 4-km radius permanent danger zone and entry without vigilance into the 2-km extended danger zone is not allowed.

Likewise, flying any aircraft close to Bulusan Volcano is not advisable due to sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions that may occur.

Bulusan had phreatic eruptions last month, first on June 5 and the second one on June 12.

Some nearby barangays experienced ashfall as a result.

PHIVOLCS raised the alert status of Bulusan Volcano from level zero to level 1 on June 5. —KG, GMA News
