Magnitude 5.1 jolts General Macarthur, Eastern Samar


A magnitude 5.1 earthquake shook General Macarthur in Eastern Samar early Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

The quake, which was tectonic in origin with a depth of 57 kilometers, occurred at 1:10 a.m.

The epicenter was located at 11.36°N, 125.55°E - 013 km N 08° E of General Macarthur.

Intensity V was recorded in General Macarthur, Hernani, and Quinapondan, Eastern Samar; Pastrana, Palo and Tacloban City, Leyte.

There will be no damages, PHIVOLCS said, but aftershocks should be expected.  BAP/KG, GMA News
