No tsunami threat to Philippines after Papua New Guinea magnitude 6.5 quake —PHIVOLCS


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology on Sunday said there is no threat of tsunami in the Philippines following the magnitude 6.5 earthquake that struck Papua New Guinea. 

"No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data. This is for information purposes only and there is no tsunami threat to the Philippines from this earthquake," PHIVOLCS said in its Tsunami Information No. 1.

The quake hit the New Britain region in Papua New Guinea at a depth of 65 km, the United States Geological Survey said, according to a report by Reuters. —KG, GMA Integrated News
