Magnitude 4.8 quake hits Occidental Mindoro


A magnitude 4.8 earthquake rocked Occidental Mindoro Tuesday evening at 8:57 p.m., according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

The epicenter of the strong quake was located 24 kilometers west of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro. It is tectonic in nature and has a depth of 67 kilometers.

PHIVOLCS earlier reported the earthquake had a magnitude of 5 but later downgraded it.

Reported Intensity II was felt in Quezon City.

Meanwhile, Instrumental Intensity I was monitored in Tagaytay City, Cavite, and Calapan City in Oriental Mindoro.

Aftershocks are expected but PHIVOLS said damage is unlikely.—Sundy Locus/LDF, GMA Integrated News
