Taal Volcano had two volcanic earthquakes in past 24 hours —PHIVOLCS

Two volcanic earthquakes were recorded in Taal Volcano in Batangas in the past 24 hours, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Saturday.

This includes one volcanic tremor that lasted for two minutes.

A total of 5,887 tonnes of sulfur dioxide were emitted on Wednesday, July 12.

PHIVOLCS said there was still upwelling of hot volcanic fluids in the Main Crater Lake.

Meanwhile, moderate plumes rising up to 1,200 meters tall were seen, and these drifted northeast.

Alert Level 1 (Low-level unrest) remains in effect over Taal Volcano on Saturday, PHIVOLCS said.

It reiterated that Taal Volcano Island including the Permanent Danger Zone and especially the Main Crater and Daang Kastila fissures should be kept off limits.

"Flying any aircraft close to the volcano is not allowed," PHIVOLCS added.

The agency warned that under Alert Level 1, Taal Volcano may have steam-driven or phreatic or gas-driven explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas. —KG, GMA Integrated News
