Angeles City converts bio-waste into liquid organic fertilizer
The Angeles City government is turning the city's biodegradable waste into organic liquid fertilizer.
In a press release, the city government announced that it will be providing organic liquid fertilizers to farmers and residents to reduce organic waste.
"Naging katuwang po natin sa proyektong ito ang namayapang si Engineer (Donato) Dizon na kung saan ang hangarin po ng siyudad ay ang mabawasan po ang organic waste natin at mapakinabangan ang by-product nito na fertilizer ng ating mga magsasaka at residente para sa kanilang mga pananim,” said Angeles City Mayor Carmelo ‘Pogi’ Lazatin Jr.
(The late Engineer [Donato] Dizon was our partner in this project, where our city is aiming to reduce the volume of our organic waste and transform its by-product into fertilizer for our farmers and residents for their crops.)
The Department of Agriculture- Region III has reportedly already tested the liquid form of fertilizer and has passed the acidity level for foliar fertilizer. Foliar fertilizer is a chemical or natural substance applied directly onto a plant's leaves to improve its health and increase fertility.
Organic liquid fertilizer can improve nutrient absorption for plants, increase soil fertility and reduce environmental impact.
To support the project, offices of the city government and nearby business establishments around city Hall have turned over their biodegradable waste to the Central Composting Facility which is open to everyone.
Dalhin lamang po dito sa Central Composting Facility ang inyong mga nabubulok na basura para magtuluy-tuloy po ang proyektong ito,” Lazatin said.
(Just bring your biodegradable waste to the Central Composting Facility so that this project can continue.)
As defined, biodegradable wastes include leftover food, used cooking oil, fish entrails, scales, fins, fruits, vegetable peelings, rotten fruits and vegetables.
Representatives from local government units, national agencies and business establishments from Pangasinan, Baguio City, Davao, Metro Manila, and Tarlac have already visited the Central Composting Facility to gain insights in the black soldier fly technology initiative of the city government in producing organic fertilizer.
