PHIVOLCS records steam-driven eruption in Taal Volcano
The Taal Volcano in Batangas had a three-minute phreatic or steam-driven eruption in the past 24 hours, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
However, PHIVOLCS said in its Monday advisory that there was no volcanic earthquake that was recorded since Sunday.
State seismologists also noted 3,309 metric tons of sulfur dioxide a day from the volcano on August 2. It added that vog or volcanic smog was observed within the vicinity.
The emission is 1,500 meters tall and drifted northeast and northwest, the Phivolcs also said.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1 due to low-level unrest.
Under such an alert status, sudden phreatic explosions, volcanic earthquakes, minor ashfall, and lethal accumulations or expulsions of volcanic gas pose a threat within Taal Volcano island.
Entry into the Taal Volcano island and the permanent danger zone is prohibited and the vicinity of the volcano is a no-fly zone.—Vince Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
