Earthquake of magnitude 5.0 hits Caraga, Davao Oriental


A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit the waters off Caraga, Davao Oriental on Friday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. 

The earthquake of tectonic origin was recorded 8 kilometers south of Caraga at 3:08 p.m. It has a depth of 147 kilometers. 

Instrumental intensities were recorded in the following areas: 

Intensity II  - Digos, Davao del Sur; Nabunturan, Davao de Oro; Malungo, Sarangani

Intensity I - Matanao, Davao del Sur; Don Marcelino, Davao Occidental; Alabel, Sarangani; General Santos City and Tupi in South Cotabato; and Bislig, Surigao del Sur 

Further, state seismologists said that while there is no damage expected, aftershocks could occur. —Vince Angelo Ferreras/LDF, GMA Integrated News
