Report: iPad 3 may sport quad-core processor and 4G data
The next-generation model of Apple's iPad tablet computer may come with an even faster quad-core processor and an option to connect to global LTE networks, a tech site reported.
Boy Genius Reports (BGR) posted photos of the output from a supposed prototype of the iPad 3 using a development and debug tool called iBoot.
"(W)e can infer plenty of information about the upcoming iPad 3. For starters, the model numbers are J1 and J2 (iPad3,1 and iPad3,2), and while DigiTimes reported this a few weeks ago, these two models are not different devices, just a single iPad available in two versions — one with Wi-Fi only and one with Wi-Fi and embedded GSM/CDMA/LTE for all carriers," it said.
BGR also said the photo virtually confirm the processor Apple will be using in the iPad 3: an A6 processor with model number S5L8945X.
It noted the Apple A4 model was S5L8930X and the A5 is S5L8940X.
"The new processor will also apparently be a quad-core model, making the upcoming iPad 3 the fastest iOS device ever, we have been told," BGR said.
A separate article on tech site CNET noted compatibility with 4G networks has been expected since before the second-generation model last year.
CNET added Apple is expected to roll out the iPad 3 sometime in March, with a formal introduction possibly happening as early as this month.
"Besides a faster processor and speedier cellular networking the device is expected to feature a higher-resolution display and much improved cameras," it said (). — TJD, GMA News
