Pinoy computer society in KSA tapped to promote OAV registration
Filipino computer enthusiasts in Saudi Arabia have been tapped to help Philippine officials there promote and support the overseas absentee voting (OAV) registration for the 2013 elections.
Philippine ambassador to Saudi Arabia Ezzedin Tago also urged the Computer Society of Filipinos Inc. (COMSOFIL) to help disseminate information to the Filipino community about the appointment system for passport services.
"(Tago) asked the organization to campaign and support the ongoing registration for Overseas Absentee Voting (OAV) at the Philippine Embassy in Riyadh from Saturdays to Thursdays during working hours or on Fridays by special arrangement," the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.
He made the requests after he inducted the COMSOFIL's new officers last February 10.
Tago also thanked COMSOFIL for supporting the Philippine campaign for the Puerto Princesa Underground River's inclusion in the list of the New Seven Wonders of Nature.
In his message, Tago commended COMSOFIL for its tireless service to the Filipino community in the Kingdom.
"Since 1995, COMSOFIL has been providing continuing education through information technology seminars, while maintaining strategic partnerships with leading information and communication technology (ICT) solution providers and other community organizations in developing relevant and practical skills training programs for the benefit of Filipino expatriates based in Riyadh," the DFA said.
In 2011, 1,839 trainees graduated from various courses offered by COMSOFIL, a 2010 Presidential Banaag Awardee.
COMSOFIL also offers courses in ICT fields such as office productivity; database applications; computer programming; PC assembly and troubleshooting; networking; graphic illustration and creative design; web development; computer aided design; office systems automation; basic electronics/cellphone repair; digital photography and video editing; accounting automation; and other courses ranging from basic to advance computer skills.
As part of its social responsibility projects, COMSOFIL also undertakes outreach programs for Gawad Kalinga and donates to victims of cyclones in the Philippines. — TJD, GMA News
