BioWare co-founder promises closure for ME3 fans
By BJ David
In an open letter posted on the BioWare blog, co-founder Dr. Ray Muzyka confirmed that the company is working on additional content that will add to the Mass Effect 3 (ME3) story, which aims to give additional closure to fans who were disappointed with the game's controversial ending.
Muzyka acknowledged the deep involvement of the players in the series. “The journey you undertake in Mass Effect provokes an intense range of highly personal emotions in the player; even so, the passionate reaction of some of our most loyal players to the current endings in Mass Effect 3 is something that has genuinely surprised us,” he wrote. “This is an issue we care about deeply, and we will respond to it in a fair and timely way. We’re already working hard to do that,” he continued.
The team also took some time and effort to monitor the feedback posted on different media channels such as Facebook, Twitter, and other videogame related websites. With that, Muzyka mentioned that Executive Producer Casey Hudson and the rest of the team are taking all the constructive criticism into consideration in producing the new content that “will help answer the questions, providing more clarity for those seeking further closure to [the player's] journey [on ME3].”
Weeding out the bad
While the statement said that BioWare is heeding the call of the fans, the company still put up a steadfast stance on how it will not sacrifice the artistic integrity of the creators. It stressed on how some fan criticisms have become 'destructive rather than constructive'. “We listen and will respond to constructive criticism, but much as we will not tolerate individual attacks on our team members, we will not support or respond to destructive commentary,” Muzyka stressed.
A need for cooperation and proper communication between the players and the creators was further implied. “If you are a Mass Effect fan and have input for the team – we respect your opinion and want to hear it,” Muzyka said. “In return, I’d ask that you help us do that by supporting what I truly believe is the best game BioWare has yet crafted,” he added.
Muzyka's message ended with a reassuring, “Thank you for your feedback – we are listening.”
The new content will be released in April. — TJD, GMA News
