LG's flexible e-paper display to debut in Europe

Europe may be the first to catch a glimpse of LG's e-paper, as the Korean electronics firm is planning to launch the electronic paper display (EPD) there in April, a tech site reported recently.

Mashable said LG has started mass production of its EPD, a six-inch 1024-x-768 e-ink plastic screen that is scratch-resistant and can survive drops from 1.5 meters.

“With the world’s first plastic EPD, LG Display has once again proven its reputation for leadership and innovation with a product we believe will help greatly popularize the E-Book market,” said Sang Duck Yeo, Head of Operations for LG Display’s Mobile/OLED division.

Mashable said there is no word on a US release, but LG says the EPD will first be supplied to ODM (original device manufacturers) companies in China, with completed products hitting European shores at the beginning of April.

It added the upcoming product’s biggest claim to fame is its flexibility, where the screen can be bent at a range of 40 degrees from its center. — TJD, GMA News
