Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami planning new Survival Horror game

Shinji Mikami, the man behind Capcom’s popular Resident Evil/ BioHazard series, is planning to return to his roots with a new survival horror game that’s codenamed “Zwei”. Citing Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, Otaku.com said that the game is in the early stages of development under Mikami’s new studio, Tango Gameworks.

Mikami is best known for his seminal work with the original Resident Evil/ Bio Hazard, which was released for the Sony Playstation back in March of 1996.  He oversaw subsequent installments in the franchise, and also directed another survival horror title, Dino Crisis. He continued working with Capcom, eventually upping the ante with Resident Evil 4 by making the fine transition from Survival Horror to the Survival Action genre. After revolutionizing the field in that franchise and working on a few more titles like the beat-'em-up game God Hand, Mikami left Capcom, and went on to collaborate with other companies. He recently worked with Grasshopper Manufacture, Electronic Arts, and Goichi Suda for Shadows of the Damned, and released via Platinum Games the 3rd Person Shooter game called Vanquish.

With “Zwei” currently in production and not seeing a release at least until sometime in 2013, Mikami has his hands full in what is reportedly the last game he will do before retiring from the gaming scene. It’s a return to form for the veteran survival horror game director, and here’s hoping it will live up to fans' expectations.  — TJD, GMA News
