Adobe: Flash software updated to counter exploit

Adobe has released a new version of its Flash software to counter an active exploit that can allow an attacker to run arbitrary code. Tech site CNET said the newest version of Flash, now available for download, will now be 11.2.202.235. It said Adobe described the flaw as an "object confusion vulnerability," allowing an attacker to crash the Flash application and execute code that could potentially allow the attacker to take control of the system. CNET said the malware developers are now exploiting the vulnerability to compromise systems. It said an object-confusion vulnerability can direct a program to execute arbitrary code stored in other sections of memory, such that they can run the attacker's malware. "Currently this vulnerability is being exploited for people using Internet Explorer on Windows systems, but the vulnerability is not exclusive to Windows and could potentially be used to attack Mac and Linux users as well," it said. CNET said the built-in Flash Player in Google's Chrome browser has already been updated for those who have it installed. — ELR, GMA News
