MMDA rolls out traffic app for Windows Phone smartphones
After weeks of testing, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority released this week its traffic app for smartphones running Microsoft's Windows Phone operating system.
The MMDA for WP app, which runs on Windows Phone 7.5 and higher, was released May 16 on the Windows Phone app marketplace, weighing in at 2 MB.
"Metro Manila Windows Phone users, the official MMDA for Windows Phone app is now available," announced MMDA traffic discipline unit head Yves Gonzalez Friday on his Twitter account.
Users can get traffic information on major roads like EDSA, C5, SLEX, Ortigas, Roxas Blvd, Commonwealth, Katipunan, Marcos Highway, España and Quezon Avenue.
Version 1.5 of the app includes new features such as:
- Added Live Tiles
- Added Notification support
- Added Offline features
- Auto adapt to 512MB and 256MB devices
- Set Map default to Street View
- Share to Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and Windows Live
- Report wrong data to MMDA
- Optimized UI to support smaller display
The MMDA earlier hinted it is close to coming out with an app for Windows Phone after the launch of Nokia's Lumia series, its latest smartphone running on WP7.
The MMDA already has versions of its app, which guides motorists on which roads are clogged, for Apple's iOS and Google's Android.
Its existing apps for other platforms including iOS and Android also allow users to send information on the traffic condition in major roads. –KG, GMA News
