3D meat slicer scans your pork before chopping it up perfectly
A new high-tech meat slicer is giving new meaning to the term “prime cut.”
The Libra 165C, developed by meat-slicer maker Nantsune, uses 3D imaging to cut perfect slices of pork, according to a report on Diginfo.TV.
“Because meat has an irregular shape, by determining its cross-section in advance, this machine can produce slices of the same weight, by varying the thickness,” it quoted the manufacturer as saying.
It determines the 3D shape of the meat before slicing it, by scanning using a displacement sensor.
The mechanism also allows high-speed slicing at up to 6,000 slices per hour, the report said.
According to the report, the slicer will be released in late June and be sold for about US$160,000 (Y12,600,000).
Diginfo.TV said the Nantsune’s previous machine used a system where a fixed weight was obtained by feeding back the weight while slicing.
“But that method is slow, so we’ve increased the slicing speed by scanning the shape of the meat in advance,” it quoted the maker as saying.
“Basically, the measurement is done while slicing the meat. So meat is output efficiently, without waiting for measurements,” it added. — TJD, GMA News
